Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology organised an awareness programme on health for about 50 members of self-help groups (SHG) at V.O.Chidambaram College here on Wednesday.
Principal C.Veerabahu inaugurated the programme. S.M.D.Marudhavalli, Associate Professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Holy Cross Home Science College, Thoothukudi, in her address, stressed the importance of cultivating a habit of consuming healthy food so as to lead a disease-free life.
Latha Freeda Joan, Lecturer of Medical Entomology, Thoothukudi Medical College, in a session on dengue awareness, spoke on how dengue affects one’s health and precautionary measures to be taken for preventing an outbreak. She said that cleanliness should be maintained at house.
Water containers should be closed to prevent mosquito breeding.
Earlier, D. Radhika, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, and coordinator of the programme, who welcomed the gathering, said that a programme for school students would be conducted on January 4.
The students would be exposed to first-aid procedures, the environment of oceans and e-waste management.
A programme for farmers would be conducted on January 5 in which livestock management, crop management and vermi technology would be covered and its uses in a programme scheduled to be held on January 5, she said.
