Local health department to host farmers market tours to promote healthy eating

SNOW HILL, MD. – The Worcester County Health Department is working to raise awareness about healthy tools and resources in the community. In an effort to raise awareness about healthier food, the health department is looking to offer farmers market tours. They say the tour will be a good way to introduce local residents to farmers markets in the area in addition to fresh and local produce. As well as making it a fun and educational experience that the entire family can enjoy.

"We thought it would be a great idea to offer and primitive farmers markets tours to link community residents and make them more aware that these farmers markets are here in the county and overall just educating them on the nutritious value and benefits that a lot of the fruits and vegetables do have," said chronic disease and tobacco supervisor for the health department Crystal Bell.

The first tour will be taking place at the Ocean Pines Farmers Market on May 16th. Tours will then be scheduled periodically at other farmers markets throughout the county.
