Former Olympic swimmer Stephanie Rice has shared a side-by-side ‘transformation’ picture, which she says also show a change in her mental state.
The three-time gold winner at the 2008 Beijing Olympics told her 100,000 followers that it “took a lot of courage” to share the images, but she wants “to help lift others out of mentally tough times”.
The image is a side-by-side of a picture taken in 2014 next to one in the current day. Rice explained: “This first picture was taken in 2014 when I was living in America. I was exercising daily, following programs & eating healthy vegan foods. I felt like I was doing everything right … so why was my body not responding??
“I was continually beating myself up for not being good enough, comparing myself to everyone else and my swimming days of being super fit & believing that I wouldn’t be happy until I lost weight.”
Despite her frustration, Rice explained that she didn’t see a change in her body until she altered her attitude.
“What I know FOR SURE is that my body was never going to respond to all the external effort I was putting in UNTIL I changed the way I thought about myself,” she said.
“No change you make on the outside (like losing weight) will last unless you change your mindset.”
The 29-year-old has just announced a new mentoring programme, which she created with a focus on mindset.
“Enjoy the activities and diving into your own personal development … I can’t wait to hear what you think of it,” she told her instagram followers.
